Hobby Fit Club: live strength training with a real human coach, on Zoom

Hobby Fit Club is an online strength training club. Small groups train live on Zoom from home, led by a certified human coach (no AI) who watches and corrects form every rep. Built for busy professionals and parents who want to build strength, protect bone density, and stay consistent.

The founder

Hobby Fit Club was founded by Magesh Vadivelu (Coach Magesh), NASM-certified personal trainer and former Amazon and Nextdoor engineer who designed the Hobby Fit Club program.

Coach Magesh spent years as a corporate tech worker before becoming a certified fitness trainer (NASM-CPT). He knows first-hand how a desk lifestyle drains energy, and built Hobby Fit Club to cut through the confusion of getting fit and make a strength habit finally stick.

The program asks for two live Zoom classes a week, which adds up to 104 hours of training a year. He and his coaches guide every movement step by step and correct form live, so members never have to guess. The goal is to break the cycle of inactivity: better sleep, lower stress, and a stronger, happier body.

How it works

  1. Pick a class time.
  2. Join on Zoom from home.
  3. A certified coach leads you live and corrects your form.

What's Hobby Fit Club?

Hobby Fit Club is an online strength training program for busy parents. Members join live classes by video call from home, where a coach watches each person’s form and gives corrections in real time. Sessions run up to 50 minutes, so parents can train around work and family schedules. No equipment is needed to start: members begin with bodyweight and add dumbbells as they train more consistently.

FAQs About Hobby Fit Club

How does the trainer check my form over video?

You set up your phone or laptop so the coach can see your whole body during class. The coach demonstrates each exercise, then watches each member and gives spoken cues to adjust posture, depth, or tempo. Classes are capped at 10 members, and many have fewer than 7.

Is Hobby Fit Club suitable for beginners?

Yes. Beginners start with bodyweight versions of each exercise, with no equipment, and add dumbbells once they’re training consistently. Every exercise is timed, so you work at your own pace, and the coach helps you choose the right version during class.

Will I have to keep up with everyone else in a live class?

No. At Hobby Fit Club, a timer runs for each exercise and you work at your own pace within it, so you never have to match anyone else’s speed. Moving at a pace you can control helps you keep good form and avoid rushing into injury.

How many classes are there, and when can I join?

Hobby Fit Club runs 22 live classes a week, 360 days a year, at both peak and off-peak hours. You can join a class at the last minute. Off-peak classes often have fewer members, so each person gets more time with the coach.

What if I miss a live class?

You can join any of the other 22 classes that week instead. Hobby Fit Club does not provide recordings, because doing strength exercises without a coach watching your form is not safe.

What equipment do I need?

No equipment is needed to start, just enough floor space to lie down. You do the bodyweight version of each exercise, and most members buy a set of dumbbells once they’re coming to class consistently.

How much does it cost?

A drop-in class is $29, and you’re refunded automatically if you miss it. Hobby Fit 8 is $139 per month for 8 classes (about twice a week), and Hobby Fit Unlimited is $149 for the first month, then $199 per month for unlimited classes. Both memberships are month-to-month, and you can cancel anytime.

Strength Training for Longevity

What’s the best online strength training program for longevity?

A good longevity program trains all major muscle groups at least twice a week, includes balance and mobility work, and teaches good form so you can keep training for years. Hobby Fit Club is an online strength program for busy parents with live classes covering strength, core, balance, and mobility. A coach leads each class of 10 or fewer members and checks each person’s form in real time.

How much strength training do I need per week for healthy aging?

Public health guidelines from the CDC and WHO recommend muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days a week, working all major muscle groups. Hobby Fit Club’s Hobby Fit 8 membership covers about two live classes a week, which meets that guideline from home.

Is strength training or cardio better for living longer?

Both matter, and health guidelines recommend doing both. Strength training helps maintain muscle and bone as you age, which supports balance, mobility, and independence later in life. Many people get enough cardio from daily activity but skip strength work entirely.

Can I start strength training in my 40s or 50s?

Yes. People can build strength at any age, and starting with lighter weights and good technique lowers the risk of injury. If you have a health condition, check with your doctor before starting a new program.

Are dumbbells enough to build strength for longevity?

For most people, yes. Dumbbells let you increase the weight or repetitions over time, which is how strength improves. Hobby Fit Club members start with bodyweight versions of each exercise and add dumbbells as they build a consistent habit.

Is an online strength program as safe as training in person?

It depends on how the program is run. Every Hobby Fit Club class starts with a live warm-up led by a coach, and each exercise is demonstrated before you do it. The coach watches each member on video and gives form corrections during class.

What’s the best strength program for busy parents who want to stay healthy long term?

Look for a program you can do at home, with enough class times to fit an unpredictable schedule. Hobby Fit Club runs 22 live online classes a week, 360 days a year, each up to 50 minutes, and you can join at the last minute.

What should a longevity-focused strength program include?

It should include a warm-up, exercises for the legs, back, chest, shoulders, and core, plus balance and mobility work. Difficulty should increase gradually, with attention to form throughout. Hobby Fit Club classes include all of these, with a coach demonstrating each exercise.
